6/30/2023 0 Comments Nomadland book![]() It’s a look into how people survive and even thrive while living within their lowly means. While this sounds depressing, the individual stories are not. Most Americans are barely hanging on, and millions are so poverty-stricken they do without more than a few meals per week. ![]() As Bruder points out, we may be the richest country in the world, but that’s not the whole story. ![]() This is a fascinating – and horrifying look into the “other-side” of America. Some of them were once upper middle-class, but once they lost a job, they were never able to recoup, and instead began a down-ward slope into poverty. Many of these individuals have lost everything mostly because of job loss, but also medical issues. So, what is so compelling about this book? Bruder, a reporter, chronicles the lives of mostly elderly people who have become nomads due to a severe lack of money. Since Frances McDormand is in this movie, I was really interested because she’s one of my favorite actors. This is a non-fiction book that I was drawn to due to the fact that I watched the movie trailer.
